ABOUT GPSNR

The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber is an international, multistakeholder, voluntary membership organisation, with a mission to lead improvements in the socioeconomic and environmental performance of the natural rubber value chain.

ABOUT GPSNR

Development of the GPSNR was initiated by the CEOs of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Tire Industry Project (TIP) in November 2017. Members of the platform include Producers, Processors & Traders, Tire makers and other rubber makers/buyers, Car makers, other downstream users and Financial Institutions, and Civil society. Representatives from each of these stakeholder groups have contributed to the development of the Singapore-based platform and the wide-reaching set of priorities that will define GPSNR strategy and objectives.

vision & mission

Vision: A fair, equitable and environmentally sound natural rubber value chain.

Mission: To lead improvements in the socioeconomic and environmental performance of the natural rubber value chain.

“The commitment of TIP members to achieve sustainable natural rubber has been a crucial driving force in taking the GPSNR from concept to reality. Today, our members are joined by a growing and increasingly well-balanced GPSNR membership of rubber value chain and civil society members – the actors are in place, and the foundations for transformative action along the natural rubber value chain have been laid. Now the real work can begin.”

COMMITTED TO SMALLHOLDERS INCLUSIVITY

Ensuring relevant representation of Smallholders within the GPSNR Governance is a priority. A dedicated working group has been established to coordinate actions to identify and secure adequate Smallholder representation within GPSNR.

FAIR, EQUITABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND

GPSNR will work to harmonize standards to improve respect for human rights, prevent land-grabbing and deforestation, protect biodiversity and water resources, improve yields, and increase supply chain transparency and traceability.

STRATEGY AND OBJECTIVES

What does Sustainable Natural Rubber mean and how can we get there together? A dedicated working group has been established to agree on what is the "desired state" for Sustainable Natural Rubber. It will determine what strategies are needed to address social, economic and environmental impacts, and achieve this “desired state”, as well as prioritizing strategies based on their importance and urgency and GSPNR’s potential to effect change.
